The seasons have changed (from winter to summer) and I'm still at Stevens. A good six to ten feet of corn snow with a crispy layer of sticks seasoned with grime make up the Cascade casserole this May. (It's now baking at about 80 degreees F.)
I started my job at Skykomish where it is a bit of a struggle finding stuff to do until the snow melts. Currently there is only one snow-free trail on the district and one lake that is half-way accessible. Soon enough I'll be out in uniform pleading with the public that it is really better to tie their dogs to their persons, not defecate in the trail, and enjoy the woods without chopping at the trees. I expect such things will actually be a small part of the experience. Advantages will include 5-day solo backpacking trips, meeting interesting folks, new country with more time to learn it and the ecosystems that permeate the landscape, a chance to go on a fire, and a fair dose of trail work.
High-graded items from my life mediated through photos, prose, video.
